With great anticipation, you unpack your console, connect it, and then want to press the power button – but where is it? If you have just bought a PlayStation 4 or borrowed one from a friend, you may stumble upon the point where you actually turn on the PS4. We will show you where the power button is located on all versions of the PS4 and how you can turn it on.
Turning on the PS4 on the console itself
There are currently three different hardware revisions of the PlayStation 4: the classic PlayStation 4 (CUH-1XXX), the slim version (CUH-2XXX), and the PlayStation 4 Pro (CUH-7XXX). Depending on the version, the position and type of power button may vary.
Classic PS4 (CUH-1XXX)
Especially with the first version, you can easily overlook the power button. The touch switch is located on the upper half of the front, above the Blu-ray drive, and below the linear power indicator light.
PS4 Slim (CUH-2XXX)
In the slimmer version of the PS4, you will find a tactile power button. It is located on the left side at the front, in the column of the disc drive.
PS4 Pro (CUH-7XXX)
The Pro version also has a tactile power button. It can be found on the left side, at the bottom of the middle of the three ridges.
Turning on the PS4 with the controller/remote control
You don’t necessarily have to use the power button on the console itself to turn on the PS4. You can also conveniently do this with the controller or a suitable PS4 remote control.
Turning on with the controller
The PlayStation 4 can also be turned on simply by using the original DualShock 4 controller. All you have to do is press and hold the PS button on the gamepad for a brief moment.
Turning on with the remote control
If you frequently use your PlayStation as a Blu-ray or media player, you can also separately purchase a remote control for the PS4 system. With the officially licensed remote controls from PDP (check them out on eBay), you can also turn on the console using the remote control.
