There are more than enough currency converter apps in the Play Store and the App Store. However, when you’re traveling, it’s important to have a reliable currency converter app that also works offline. That’s why we’ve compiled a few of the best apps for Android and iOS that always show you the current exchange rate.

Even if you’re not traveling to distant countries, it’s still a good idea to have a currency converter app. Despite the Euro being accepted in all EU countries, you’ll be disappointed in four of our neighboring countries: Denmark, Poland, and the Czech Republic all have their own currency, despite being part of the EU. Similarly, in non-EU countries like Switzerland, Norway, and the United Kingdom, you’ll still be using Francs, Kroner, or Pounds.

My Currency – Currency Converter

The “My Currency – Currency Converter” knows the exchange rate of over 180 currencies. In addition to “normal” money, the app also supports conversion to selected virtual currencies (Bitcoin, Linden Dollar), precious metals (Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium), as well as discontinued currencies such as the Deutsche Mark, French Franc, and others.

You can also convert into multiple currencies simultaneously and use the app offline with the latest updated exchange rates. The ad-free premium version costs a one-time fee of 2.99 euros.

Currency Converter – Finanzen100

Although the “Currency Converter – Finanzen100” has the fewest number of currencies in this list, with more than 160 different currencies, it should be sufficient for most exchange rate calculations.

In addition to the online mode, this app also offers offline usage. You can save favorites and access conversion tables. Another useful feature is that this app has a tipping calculator integrated.

Currency Converter Easy Currency

The “Currency Converter Easy Currency” offers a slightly wider range of features. Here, you can choose from more than 200 currencies and save frequently used exchange rates as favorites, including cryptocurrencies and some metals.

In addition to charts showing the rate developments (1 day to 5 years timeframe), the app allows you to convert all your favorite currencies simultaneously. Besides the free, ad-supported version, there is also a paid, ad-free Plus version available for 2.29 euros. However, the offline mode is available in both versions.

What We Considered in Our Selection

Of course, you can try to remember or write down the approximate exchange rate in advance. BUT: How many Euros are 20 Zloty if 1 Euro equals 4.71 Zloty? Or how many Czech Crowns will I get if I want to exchange 20 Euros, when 1 Czech Crown equals 0.042 Euro?! As you may have noticed, mental math quickly becomes a headache in such cases, and pulling out the calculator and entering the calculation each time is also inconvenient. That’s why we need a currency converter app.

Using mobile internet can be expensive if you haven’t arranged a separate contract for it before your trip. Especially outside EU countries, data roaming can be quite costly. That’s why we paid particular attention to the availability of an offline mode in our selection. This way, you can quickly find out how much something costs without fumbling with a calculator or engaging in mental gymnastics.

If you are offline for a long time, it’s true that you won’t be able to convert at the current exchange rate anymore. However, since currency fluctuations usually remain within a certain range, this should not have any significant impact, for example, during a 14-day vacation.
