While some people still cannot do without cash in hand even in 2023, many payments are now purely digital, such as those made through smartphones with Apple Pay. Can you send money with Apple Pay, similar to PayPal?
Simply enter an amount, select friends from your phonebook, and transfer money – it sounds easy, especially since a payment method is already set up with Apple Pay through a credit card. In theory, this is also possible with the service “Apple Cash” and an iPhone.
Apple already offers its own service called Apple Cash, which allows you to send money through Apple Pay. However, this function is only limited to use in the US.
Apple Cash: Sending Money with Apple Pay – How It Works
You can send money through Apple Pay as follows:
- Apple Pay must already be set up.
- Payments can then be made simply through the Messages app. So, open the Messenger on your iOS device.
- Start a new chat or open an existing conversation with the recipient to whom you want to transfer money.
- Below the text input window, you will find the “Pay” icon. The toolbar can be expanded using the “App Store” symbol.
- Once you have opened the payment function, select the amount the recipient should receive using the plus and minus buttons. You can also display a numeric keypad to enter the amount directly.
- Execute the payment by clicking the “Pay” button.
- Similar to the “Friends” option in PayPal, you can also provide an optional text message for Apple Pay payments.
- Press the upward arrow button.
- Authorize the payment using an unlocking method such as Face ID, Touch ID, or the iPhone passcode.
Afterward, the payment will be sent. You can not only send money through this feature but also request it.
The usage of “Apple Cash” requires the recipient to also be registered with Apple Pay. Additionally, you must be at least 18 years old, have enabled two-factor authentication on your iOS device, and have a credit card linked to Apple Pay. Any received Apple Pay balance can then be transferred to a bank account.
